Rivian officially began taking reservations today for its highly anticipated R2 compact SUV, priced at $45,000 before federal incentives. The R2 promises a 340-mile EPA-estimated range from its 75 kWh battery pack.

Built at Rivian's new Georgia manufacturing facility, the R2 features the company's next-generation drive unit architecture with dual-motor all-wheel drive standard. Zero to sixty acceleration is rated at 5.2 seconds.

The R2 enters a fiercely competitive segment against the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Hyundai Ioniq 5, but Rivian believes its adventure-focused brand identity will carve out a distinct niche.
