Rivian has officially started production of its highly anticipated R2 compact SUV at the company's Normal, Illinois factory, marking a critical milestone for the electric vehicle startup.
The R2, priced starting at $45,000, targets the mainstream market with a 310-mile range and standard all-wheel drive. Rivian confirmed that over 80,000 reservations have been placed since the vehicle's unveiling last year.
CEO RJ Scaringe stated that the R2 represents Rivian's path to profitability, with the company expecting to reach positive gross margins by the fourth quarter of 2026.
